LAUREL, MD, February 12, 2024 – Monarch Global Academy Laurel, part of The Children’s Guild, is being considered for four grants from The Laurel Race Course Impact Fund (LRCIF) Advisory Committee. All parents and students at Monarch Academy Schools are invited to provide support for four initiatives through public comment, which will be open until Wednesday, February 14th. For a direct link to the public comment form click HERE. The four Monarch Academy Programs up for consideration for funding are:
- Stories to Go Bilingual Book Club – Funds will be used to purchase bilingual books to grow the at-home libraries of the school’s elementary school English-Language-Development students. Families will be invited to participate in two eight-week bilingual book club sessions (once each semester). Parents/guardians will read the stories to students in their home language and students will read to their parents/ guardians in English. The goal is to promote biliteracy (literacy in both English and the students’ home language) by encouraging parents/guardians and students to read together at home.
- MGA NJHS Service Project KickStart – Funds would be used to set up the school’s service projects for the inaugural year of the National Junior Honor Society at Monarch Global Academy Laurel. This organization recognizes students who exhibit scholarship, service, character, citizenship, and leadership. To maintain the new chapter as a National Junior Honor Society, students must establish a service project that benefits the community and institute a leadership project within the school. The student leadership board will be in control of planning, organizing, and implementing the projects during the 2024-2025 school year and will maintain primary responsibility for the operation of this initiative year after year by the student members through fundraising and other funding streams.
- Monarch Global Dance Enrichment Equipment – Funds will be used to purchase the following items to strengthen and enrich the dance program including portable glassless mirrors with wheels, portable and storable ballet barres, reusable and universal costume pieces for performances, costume storage system(s), and a portable sound system for use during classes.
- Monarch Global Academy Laurel (Turfs) – Funds would be used to replace outdoor fields at Monarch Global Academy that are in poor condition with artificial turf. The prospective area to have turf installed is used as a physical education space, as well as the recess and play area for the school.
