Monarch Academy Glen Burnie is an AACPS public charter school that is a tuition-free, publicly funded charter school, serving children in kindergarten through eighth grade in Anne Arundel County. Monarch Academy is publicly funded and open to all students. Admission testing or screening is not required for admission to Monarch Academy.

To apply to Monarch Academy Glen Burnie Public Charter School, complete one online application form for each child (kindergarten thru 8th grade) you wish to have apply for the 2020–2021 school year. When you submit your online application form, you will be asked for your child’s 6-digit student number (the one used for lunch). Contact your child’s school to access this number if you do not know it. If you are new to Anne Arundel County Public Schools, you will have to create a new account and will then be assigned a temporary number.  Please save that number, you will need that information to complete the application.

Monarch Academy Lottery and Waiting List

There will be an electronic lottery for students at grade levels where the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available. This lottery will be held in mid-January, and results posted on our website. If your child is not admitted to Monarch Academy Glen Burnie through the lottery, he or she will automatically be placed on a waiting list. If openings become available, students on the waiting list will be selected to fill those vacancies based on when their name was drawn in the lottery.

The lottery application window for the 2020-2021 school year will open on Monday, October 14, 2019 and close at noon on Tuesday, November 26, 2019.

Monarch Academy Kindergarten Admission Requirements

To enroll children entering kindergarten, you must have been selected in the lottery, and provide the following:

  • Documentation that the caregiver has legal custody of the child
  • Original birth certificate
  • Two proofs of residence:
    Mandatory: apartment lease, mortgage statement or deed
    As well as: utility bill, current bank statement, property tax, W-2  form, social security check, current pay voucher or domestic relations check
  • Completed immunization record

Kindergarten students registering for 2020-2021 school year must be 5 years old by September 1, 2020. First–Eighth Grade Admission Requirements

If your child has been selected in the lottery, and is entering first through eighth grade, you will need:

  • Documentation that the caregiver has legal custody of the child
  • Proof of residency in Anne Arundel County
  • Original birth certificate
  • Completed immunization record
  • Maryland transfer form, which can be obtained from your child’s present school
