Dear Monarch Family,
We are less than a month away from another wonderful school year and hope you’ve had an opportunity to enjoy a wonderful, relaxing summer. It’s been busy here as we prepare for an amazing year at Monarch Academy. We’ve missed you! Please take time to read this entire opening letter so you can learn more about this year, the work that we will be doing together, and information about the first weeks of school.
Many new and exciting things are happening. A few highlighted things are:
- A Morgan State University partnership that brings college students to the school to have during lunch times to have conversations about college life and the skills needed to be successful
- The Fruits and Vegetable Program that brings local fruits and vegetables to our students twice a week
- Single-Gender Classrooms in middle school which research suggests reduces the number of dropouts, improves the general academic performance for boys and girls, and creates a setting that reduces gender distractions
This year we will also be increasing the number of clubs offered like a new girl’s lacrosse team and student government. Please make sure you receive our welcome packet that will be sent home to you during the first weeks of school and that you register and check on www.livingtree.com which will be our primary communication tool for families.
School begins on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. and after 8:15 a.m. students are considered late. The school day dismisses at 2:50 p.m. We will distribute ID or swipe cards during the first couple of weeks of school to be fully implemented by September 12, 2016. Please ensure your child does not lose this card and has it every day. There is a replacement fee for lost cards. This is a card used district wide and will also serve as the MTA card for students who will be riding the bus (more information to come). Please note our half day Wednesdays which end at 1:00 and other important dates in the attached calendar.
Together we will continue to build upon and refine the foundation set to strive for continued excellence in educating the whole child to become responsible and compassionate citizens. Our vision remains the same – to be caretakers for your child, to nurture them as they grow into
amazing individuals, to teach them the skills to be successful in a global environment, and to cultivate high expectations for every individual at Monarch Academy.
The staff here at Monarch Academy is fully committed to providing your child many opportunities both inside and outside of the classroom. We invite and encourage students and families to work in partnership with us. We will be sharing more information in the weeks to come. We extend a special, yearlong invitation to our families to join us at school activities and events whenever possible. We want . . . we need . . . and we value your involvement and support in your child’s education! Your active participation is the key to success for your child during their elementary and middle school years.
Here’s to an AWESOME new school year as we work together to make our school a great place to learn each day!
