Admissions

Monarch Academy Public Charter School is a tuition-free, publicly funded charter school, serving children in kindergarten through eighth grade in Baltimore City. Monarch Academy is publicly funded and open to all students. Admission testing or screening is not required for admission to Monarch Academy.

Applications for the 2018-2019 school year are now open.

Please complete one application form for each child that you wish to enroll for the 2017-2018 school year. If your current student has a sibling please complete application and submit with a copy of birth certificate.

Kindergarten is open for applications and will be subjected to a lottery should we receive more applications than we have spaces. Our 1st – 8th grades will be filled as need arises.

This lottery will be conducted on Wednesday February 7th, 2018 at 7pm at our school

Inclement weather” lottery date will be Tuesday February 13, 2018 at 7pm at our school.

Parents will receive letters of acceptance beginning February 26, 2018.

To get on the waiting list for Monarch Academy Public Charter School, parents must fill out an enrollment application to Monarch Academy. You can access the online application through this link  .

Once a student is enrolled in Monarch Academy, he/she does not need to apply again for subsequent years at the school.

Kindergarten Parents: A child must be five (5) years old on or before September 1, 2018 in order to enroll in kindergarten. If you are considering Early Admission, the paperwork MUST be turned in by May 1, 2018. Kindergarten Admission

To enroll children entering Kindergarten, you must have the following:

  • Original birth certificate
  • Documentation that the caregiver has legal custody of the child (proof of legal custody and/or guardianship)
  • Two proofs of residence:Mandatory: apartment lease, mortgage statement or deed
  • Optional: utility bill, current bank statement, property tax, W-2 form, social security check, current pay voucher or domestic relations check
  • Completed immunization record
  • Maryland transfer form (if your child was enrolled in a Pre-K in a Baltimore City school)

 

First – Eighth Grade Admissions

If your child is new to city schools, you will need:

  • Original birth certificate
  • Documentation that the caregiver has legal custody of the child (proof of legal custody and/or guardianship)
  • Two proofs of residence in Baltimore City:
  • Mandatory: apartment lease, mortgage statement or deed
  • Optional: utility bill, current bank statement, property tax, W-2 form, social security check, current pay voucher or domestic relations check
  • Completed immunization record
  • Maryland transfer form, which can be obtained from your child’s present school
  • If your child is transferring from another Baltimore City school, you will need:
  • Baltimore City transfer records
  • Two proofs of residence in Baltimore City:
  • Mandatory: apartment lease, mortgage statement or deed
  • Optional: utility bill, current bank statement, property tax, W-2 form, social security check, current pay voucher or domestic relations check
  • Baltimore City student ID number

Early Admission

Early admission to kindergarten
Children who turn five between September 2 and October 15 may be eligible for early admission to kindergarten, if they clearly demonstrate that they are ready for the demands of the kindergarten curriculum and setting. Parents or guardians interested in early admission for their children must go through an application process. All applications are due to the Monarch Academy by May 15th prior to the beginning of the forthcoming school year.

First Grade early admission
Children who turn six between September 2 and October 15 may be eligible for early admission to grade 1, if they demonstrate clearly that they are ready for the academic demands. Parents or guardians interested in early admission must complete and submit the application packet. All applications are due to the school by May 15th prior to the beginning of the forthcoming school year.
